Meet Leslea

Leslea Ferguson loves DIY projects that create a welcoming home for her family. She launched her blog, A Heart Filled Home, four and a half years ago, dedicated to budget-friendly home decorating and DIY projects.

Leslea and her family live in a 2-story house built almost 20 years ago. "It was filled with builder-grade finishes and lacked character, so we have been transforming it into a home we love to live in! We've added a shiplap fireplace, board and batten accent walls, painted kitchen cabinets, changed out light fixtures, updated our pantry, and so much more," says Leslea.

Leslea’s Design on a budget tips:

1) Ask yourself, can I DIY it? Do some research to see if you can build it.

2) Paint is amazing. Before you buy new, try painting it first.

3) Shop second-hand. Look on places like Facebook Marketplace or Buy/Sell groups to find budget friendly items.

Inspiration

"The wallpaper pattern inspired my girls' bedroom makeover. I loved how it created a sophisticated yet whimsical feel for the room and would grow with the girls throughout the coming years. I planned the whole room around the wallpaper, including the color scheme, furniture, decor, and accent lighting."

Love for DIY

“I did all the projects in the room myself (with some light installation help and bed repairs from my husband, Nic). I have learned my skills by watching my husband and other DIYers on Instagram, and YouTube

Lighting with style and function

I chose the Mitchell single sconce for the girls' bedroom makeover because of the layout of the room. I wanted to add accent lighting over my daughter's twin bed. The placement of her bed worked out perfectly for a single sconce on the wall next to the window. I love how it adds style and function to their room!
