Samantha Regan’s Serene & Calming Living Room Design

Samantha Regan is a Chicago-based Interior Designer and the design influencer behind the popular blog Shining On Design. Samantha’s background started in commercial and luxury residential real estate, but her true passion was design. After her first daughter was born, she decided to pursue a more creative path to Interior Design School.

Samantha started her blog, Shining on Design, to share her ideas and inspirations for the home while connecting with other bloggers and brands.

Samantha lives in the charming suburbs of Chicago with her husband and four kids. She has touched just about every room in her home to make it her own. Her last room to dive into was her living room. Samantha and her family spend the most time here, so it was vital for her to create a calm and soothing space to counter the chaos of their lives. “With four little kids, our house is rarely calm, so my goal was to create a calm-looking room! I love soft colors, subtle patterns, great lighting, and lots of texture. I was able to transform a couple of older pieces, like our coffee table, and create new custom-made pieces. I love how everything came together,” says Samantha.

For her living space, she went with the Crystorama Baxter 8-Light Chandelier. “The glass stems are my favorite detail on the Baxter light. The light itself is a timeless style and so versatile,” says Samantha.

Black & White Gallery Wall Tips

Samantha jazzed up the wall on their staircase with black and white photos of her family. Keeping the color scheme simple (black, white, gray), she used large frames from Potterybarn & IKEA, and a mirror from an old flea market find.

“Gallery walls can be so tricky! My top tips for tackling them are to choose artwork and photos that are meaningful, go with larger frames to make an impact, and only keep about an inch or two between each frame to give it a cohesive look. I kept all our frames white and used black and white photos for a classic style,” says Samantha.
