A Cheerful Bedroom Redesign for Kids And Playful Spirits

Meet Hannah

Hannah Winslow of @hearditfromhannah is a mom of 2 with a Masters's degree in Communications. She works in digital marketing during the day, and designing is her passion on the side. Hannah is a creative spirit who channels that energy into interiors. "When I was younger, I used to rearrange my room and paint the walls constantly. I was lucky to have parents who encouraged my creativity and risk-taking. They often said, "you can use any leftover paint in the basement" when I asked about changing my room...again, says Hannah.

Hannah moved into a southern colonial-style home about nine months ago and worked hard to infuse some personality. It was built in 1985 and lacked any oomph, but she loved the traditional layout and exterior of the home. She has been scouring magazines like Southern Living and Veranda to inspire the design.

She describes her style as eclectic traditional. She has been mixing her love of traditional elements with color, pattern, texture, and shine. Her recent update to her home was to transform her three-year-old son’s room from crib to toddler room. “The room started as a bit bland, gray box. It was a perfect blank canvas. I touched just about every surface to give the room a total makeover. From the stamped faux wallpaper painted walls to the reclaimed wood that I carried onto the ceiling to the tennis racquet art installation, I wanted to bring the feeling of Vintage Americana into space, says Hannah.

Favorite design feature

"My favorite part of this room is the bed. I had a vision of what I wanted, and I couldn't find it available anywhere, so I decided to make it. I gave my husband the design, and he built the bed frame using plywood and 2x4s. Then I covered it all in foam batting and upholstered the entire thing. It was a labor of love and fully custom. I love that I get to lay with my son and read stories in that bed every night."

Vintage Americana inspired lighting

“This light was the perfect choice for Vintage Americana because it is a classic. I love the clean lines and how the black grounds the room. My favorite part of the lights is their functionality. I loved that I could get high-end lights plugged in because we were not planning on adding junction boxes to accommodate hard-wired lights. I also love the dimmer. It allows me to choose a soft light for nighttime reading.”
