A Clean, Serene En Suite Bathroom Redesign

Lindsey Boehmke is self taught when it comes to home design and DIY. She has always had her hands in arts or crafts for as long as she can remember. Lindsey went to school for Art History and took several studio art and design classes.

Lindsey started her blog Hilltown House 10 years ago to help pull herself out of a negative place in her life by sharing the things she loved with friends and family. Once she started to share the process of building her current home, and eventually her DIY projects, her focus became helping busy families improve both the look and functionality of their homes with her unique spin on classic style.

Hilltown House is located in the heart of Bucks County PA. Lindsey has spent the last 7 years transforming their builder grade home into a unique and happy place for her family. “Function always comes first when it comes to my home. I have two elementary school aged boys and two nutty dogs. Our house is chaotic enough so making sure that things are organized and uncluttered is extremely important for us. Right now, our home is going through a bit of a transitional period. I've been creating layers of color and pattern wherever I can.  As I've grown into my own style I've learned to be very intentional with everything I bring into my home and to look for pieces that I really love and that tell a story,” says Lindsey.

Inspiration

“This redesign came out of necessity because our shower started leaking into our kitchen ceiling. I became really inspired by the materials that I started to pull together, particularly the basket weave tile behind the vanity and the colorful wallpaper from Hygee and West. Together they represent the two sides of my personal design style, classic and quirky.”

Diffusing Light

“Since there is so much going on in this space, I wanted the lighting to provide the calmness I think every bathroom needs. The fabric shades diffuse the light so beautifully and sets the perfect vibe for relaxing in a bubble bath. They remind me of frosted glass, especially the curved sconces over the sinks. The touches of black metal in the Fulton collection give just the right touch of modernity and ties into the rest of the matte black finishes.”

Lindsey’s bathroom design tips:

1) Always start with function first.

I'd suggest doing a really deep clean out so you can take stock of how much storage space you'll actually need.

2) Find a few places to splurge, especially if you're doing a full remodel.

You most likely will only give your bathroom one major makeover so make the most of it.

3) Don't forget about the lighting.

You want to have enough lighting above your vanity area to light your mirrors, but to also set a more relaxed vibe.
