A Industrial and Sophisticated Dining Room Makeover

It’s our favorite time of year again, where we get so excited to see all the final reveals of our One Room Challenge partners. Over the next few months, we will be profiling each designer to showcase their amazing transformations. First up is Rehma Hady! This dining room transformation will be her second time participating in the One Room Challenge.

Rehma and her husband recently purchased her childhood home in Maryland. This 3500 sq ft single-family home was built over 20 years ago by her father. “ I am finishing what he started by re-vamping the home to fit my family. Our builder-grade home is getting a fresh look with an artistic flair,” says Rehma.

MEET REHMA HADY

Rehma is a mom of two living in Columbia, Maryland. She works full-time in the non-profit sector and does DIY blogging at night when her kids go to sleep. In 2016, Rehma created her first blog, The Hady Life, to share her experiences as a full-time mom and her passion for DIY.

DINING ROOM PLAN

The dining room is the first space you see when entering Rema’s home, so it was necessary to renovate this to set the tone for the rest of the house. “My dining room has tall ceilings and a chair rail. When coming up with the design plan, I thought it would be a perfect space to add trim molding to play off the chair rail. The trim wall added height to the room and made it look bigger than it was. I wanted the color palette to play off the sage green and black accents,” says Rehma Hady.

Mastering HeR DIY SKILLS

“I used to watch my dad build things from scratch, including an entire basement apartment growing up. During the pandemic lockdown, I decided to start renovating our home because I had the extra time on my hands. Every day, I called up my dad asking him how to operate power tools and a beveled cut or a 45-degree cut. With his guidance and a few youtube videos, I learned how to create a wall molding. Every time I look at it, I can’t believe I did it myself!”

JEWEL OF THE ROOM

Crystorama's Capri line is a new collection that recently debuted in 2020. The Capri chandelier is available in three sizes and offered in raw steel or antique gold finish. "I knew I wanted something rectangular because the dining room space is wide. I chose this light fixture because it has an industrial look to it but is still modern. The raw steel finish is exactly my style; I knew I had to design the dining room around it," says Rehma.
