LARGE OVERSIZED FIXTURES

Libby Langdon: It used to be that people in a small space thought they had to use a small chandelier, but now consumers are starting to see that a large chandelier can add drama and a real design moment in a room no matter what the square footage maybe. If the ceilings are low, it needs to be bigger width wise than bigger length wise, but there are so many options, it’s just important to think outside the box! We’ll be seeing large globe fixtures, oversized lanterns, multi-tier globe-shaped tall fixtures, and they all act as a Rockstar moment in a room. We will also see more large horizontal fixtures, they can have multiple arms or be elongated linear-shaped lighting. Many of these oversized fixtures are in silver and brass and are primarily in a single finish to keep it from looking too busy or overwhelming based on the scale and size. This trend in lighting is telling us to go big or GO HOME!

VINTAGE CHIC

Libby Langdon: One of the coolest trends we’ll be seeing is “Vintage Chic”. It channels that speakeasy, eclectic, cool vibe that appeals to everyone from Gen-Xer’s to millennials. These fixtures have a masculine, tailored vibe, think gin martini in a cool clubby atmosphere, it’s a young aesthetic that’s not too industrial. It’s a fresh look because of the way materials are mixed together, that gives it the current feel. I think of the “Vintage Chic” trend as Cocktail Mixology of lighting fixtures.

WHITE & GOLD MIX

Libby Langdon: Another trend is the “White and Gold Mix” we’ve seen black, and gold combined quite a bit, and the new take is now white and brass or white and gold leaf. Globe, pendant, and cone-shaped fixtures featuring white and gold finishes will be popping up everywhere. This trend is a new, fresh feel to lighting that will come in contemporary and transitional styles. So I say BRING THE BLING!

ECO-STYLE MIX

Libby Langdon: A significant trend we will see is what I call "Eco-Style Mix." There's an underlying desire for many of us to ground ourselves, feel nature, and gravitate to outdoor inspiration. I've seen these fixtures made of twine and jute rope to natural textures like burlap and wooden beads framing shapes. But the most current trend in the Eco-Style "Mix" is mixing the elements on one fixture. It's the combination of these elements together that make the light fixture feel fresh and new.

GEOMETRIC SHAPES

My final lighting trend is “Geometric Shapes”, we’ve seen this trend for a while, but now the shapes have changed a little; Not just clusters of balls and spherical structures anymore, a new take that will be popping up are honeycomb-shaped pieces. Fixtures in cone shapes and cubic shapes will also be hot. Hexagons or octagon shapes are still linear but have a softness to them. Geometric metalwork is also a great look we will be seeing; it could be on a shade or act as a geometric pattern created in metalwork. Geometric Styles are sticking around and have a whole new look.
