Making an Impact with the Right Lighting… One Room Challenge Spring Reveal

If there were one thing to come to mind about DIY & design blogger Ursula Carmona of Home Made by Carmona, it would be her sassy, determined can-do-attitude. We had the privilege to work with Ursula for the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge, a biannual competition that brings together 20 of the brightest design stars to makeover one room in six weeks. For this project, Ursula tackled her master bathroom, walk-in closet, and vanity nook that connects the rooms.
Before we get into her makeover, we must talk about Ursula’s show-stopping home that is classic & glam with abundunt use of bold, moody colors. Her three-must haves in her house are gold/brass light fixtures, moody paint, and houseplants. “ I'm a sucker for vibrant, moody colors, including dark blue, emerald greens, and a pop of metallic gold to stand out against those colors, says Carmona.
Selecting the Fixtures
When we saw this mood board and her design inspiration, we could not be more excited to see the final reveal! “These fixtures grabbed my attention because of their trendy take on a traditional style. It's the new classic with all the gorgeous elements that stand the test of time in the design world,”says Ursula Carmona.

empowering others to create beautiful spaces
Ursula hit the ground running, doing all the work solo and pushing herself to the limits by building custom wall units, wiring for electrical, installing wallpaper, and laying marble floor tiles. How does she know how to do this all? “I don't have a formal education in interior design. I know what I like and work hard to hone my eye for style. When it comes to DIY a lot of my skill comes from good old fashioned trial and error, and YouTube videos are an amazing resource,” says Carmona.
